How to use Text to Speech in Discord Voice Chat

Want to use text-to-speech not just for channels but also for voice chats? Perhaps you don’t want to share your voice or don’t have the mood to speak. This guide is perfect for you! Discover the best software options to bring your text-to-speech experience to life.

Clownfish Voice Changer

Clownfish is my favorite software for Discord voice channels. It not only supports text-to-speech but also offers amazing features like voice changing, music playback, and sound effects.

You can download Clownfish directly from their website. The software is compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS. Simply follow the installation wizard, which will guide you through each step. During installation, you’ll need to temporarily shut down audio services for configuration purposes. Don’t forget to restart your computer after completing the installation to ensure everything works smoothly.

Once the installation is complete, open Clownfish Voice Changer to explore its various options. Start by enabling the “Hear Microphone” feature and selecting “Voice Assistant”. This will allow you to input text and have it converted into audio output. Next, join your Discord voice channel, and you’ll be able to use text-to-speech seamlessly with the Clownfish interface.

There are plenty of other fun features to explore, like “Music Player,” “Sound Player”, “VST Effects” and “External Effects.” A great option is the “Sound Player”, which lets you import and play any MP3 file. You can use a YouTube-to-MP3 converter to add your favorite sound effects, creating a custom soundboard without needing Discord Nitro.

Type to Voice Chat

If Clownfish Voice Changer isn’t working for you, another great option is Type to Voice Chat. This free utility lets you convert text to audio and send it to any output device. It works well with VB-Cable, a virtual audio device that lets you talk by typing.

First, download, extract and install VB-Cable. Make sure to run the VB-Cable executable in administrator mode for it to install properly. Next, get Type to Voice Chat from the Microsoft Store. Set VB-Cable as your default input device and configure Type to Voice Chat to send its audio output to VB-Cable. With this setup, you can easily use text-to-speech in a Discord voice channel or any other communication platform.
